FROZEN
FOODS
USING Dry Ice FOR
FROZEN FOODS
Cold Storage
In cold storages, frequent
power cuts / shortages result in spoilage
of foods. Anticipate the power cuts in advance
and consult SICGIL for the required Dry
Ice quantity. The quantity of Dry Ice is
based on several factors like ambient temperature,
required temperature (of stored items),
quantity stored etc. Using Dry Ice is an
expensive option but not costly compared
to the quantum of products to be preserved.
Dry Ice acts like fumigant
and actively kills bugs. Please take caution
while handling Dry Ice as it will burn your
skin if it makes contact because of its
extreme temperature (-78.5C). Dry Ice is
always giving off carbon dioxide gas, so
it's relatively easy to keep the water moisture
from it. Just be sure you don't put it into
a container that breaths, like a paper bag
or cardboard box.
Contact SICGIL, to know the
exact quantities of Dry Ice required for
your need.
When you handle Dry Ice, please
follow these guidelines Follow these guidelines
while using Dry Ice:
Wear gloves when handling Dry Ice. Do not
touch it with your bare hands, because it
causes severe frostbite and tissue damage.
Do not lock the freezer or cover the air
vent openings: the gas given off by Dry
Ice could cause an airtight container to
explode.
Dry Ice gives out carbon dioxide gas which
can cause suffocation if inhaled in large
amounts. Open windows or doors for ventilation,
and use care when opening the freezer or
storage compartment.
